Family sitting next to me at Illium café in Troy, NY is so disconnected from one another. Not much talking. Father and two daughters have their own phones out. Mom doesn’t have one or chooses to leave it put away. She stares out the window, sad and alone in the company of her closest family. Dad looks up every so often to announce some obscure piece of info he found online. Twice he goes on about a large fish that was caught. No one replies. I am saddened by the use of technology for interaction in exchange for not interacting. This has never happened before and I doubt we have scratched the surface of the social impact of this new experience. Mom has her phone out now.
Removed è un originale progetto fotografico di Eric Pickersgill. L’idea nasce quando Eric è seduto ad un tavolo di un locale per fare colazione e, nell’attesa, si guarda intorno. Il suo occhi cadono sulla classica famigliola, lui, lei, due figlie. Sono tutti e quattro seduti intorno allo stesso tavolo e potrebbero interagire tra loro. Ridere, scherzare, chiacchierare. Ma non lo fanno. Sono invece tutti irrimediabilmente isolati con i loro telefoni in mano. Anche il tentativo della mamma di resistere e non tirare fuori il suo smartphone fallisce.
Eric non demonizza i nostri fedeli compagni elettronici. Ci permettono di condividere con persone distanti emozioni ed affetti come non mai nella storia dell’uomo. Col tempo però stanno mettendo in luce alcuni aspetti negativi su cui bisognerebbe riflettere maggiormente. Il sito di Removed lo trovate qui.
